Summary : GetSeaFit is a service for fishermen and their families. The programme which started in 2018 is a joint initiative from the Seafarers Hospital Society and the Fishermen’s Mission, with support from Seafarers UK working in partnership to deliver sustainable improvements to the heath and wellbeing of fishermen and their families around the UK.

GetSeaFit has commissioned Fairwinds to provide free mental health and wellbeing support to the community in Newlyn, with an exciting and additional generous donation being allocated to Fairwinds from Carfest Via Dr Matthew Boulter of Alverton Practice in support of the delivery of mental health and wellbeing services for the fishing community.

2021 see’s an exciting extension to the project delivery with a specific focus on reducing death by suicide in high risk groups. Fairwinds is 1 of 12 projects to have been successful in securing additional funding via the Suicide Innovation grant to continue to be able to work alongside fishers across Cornwall by offering quick access to assessment, counselling, CBT or sign posting with an increase in port visits alongside other partnership agencies.

It’s run by experienced mental health practitioner Ceri Summers, and is based at Harbourside in Wesley Place, Newlyn but can also offer phone or video consultation.

Ceri works in a practical and constructive way, helping you to take control, set goals and build resilience, in the way that’s right for you. Ceri draws on a range of tested techniques to help you find solutions. If Ceri can’t help, she knows how to get you to someone who can.
